Minecraft: How To Craft A Smithing Table

Advertisements

A Smithing Table has three of the most important uses in Minecraft: upgrading diamond gear to netherite, getting various armor trims, and serving as a worksite block for toolsmiths.

Arguably the most important of these three is upgrading diamond gear to netherite, as netherite equipment has slightly more durability than diamond equipment, which can help you survive longer without repairing your equipment.

Toolsmiths, on the other hand, are very useful because they trade extra coal and iron ingots from mining for emeralds and enchanted diamond tools. That said, you first need to get a Smithing Table and know how to use it in Minecraft, and below is how you can do that.

How To Craft A Smithing Table

Minecraft Crafting Smithing table

You need four planks of any wood and two iron ingots to craft a smithing table. Chop a tree nearby to get the planks, and head into a cave to mine some iron. After getting the resources, open a crafting table.

In the crafting table menu, you’ll see a 3×3 crafting grid. Place planks in a square shape on the bottom two columns of the grid and two iron ingots on top of it, or search the Smithing Table in the recipe book of the crafting table and click on it to get the Smithing Table.

How To Use A Smithing Table

To give a toolsmith’s job to a villager, go near an unemployed villager and place the smithing table close to the villager. The villager should automatically take the job as a toolsmith.

Following the release of the 1.20 update, upgrading diamond gear into netherite follows a slightly different process.

Minecraft using the smithing table

You can upgrade your diamond gear into netherite, but you need a netherite upgrade smithing template. You can get them from structures such as bastions, fortresses, desert temples, etc. Follow the steps below to upgrade your equipment to netherite.

  1. Place your smithing table on the ground.
  2. Right-click on the smithing table. A menu to upgrade your equipment will appear.
  3. Add the Smithing Template, a piece of equipment you want to upgrade, and a netherite ingot to the Smithing table.
  4. Click on the new upgraded equipment to get it.
