Spider-Man 2: How To Destroy Corrupted Atoms

Advertisements

Puzzles test a player’s ability of problem-solving and can be a great way to break up the pacing of a game. When a game has nothing but a main quest line to follow, it makes it very short and can feel repetitive. Instances of exploration, stealth, and puzzles help keep things feeling fresh — such as clearing out Symbiote Nests.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has several different kinds of puzzles to throw the player’s way. A lot of them will come from seeking out and completing EMF Experiments, such as the one encountered in Hybrid Calibration. Completing these can lead to the players getting some worthwhile rewards. You can use the game’s Fast Travel system to move between these points with ease.

How To Destroy Corrupted Atoms

Spider-Man 2 Molecule with corrupted atoms

When you select an atom to be destroyed, it will also destroy all the atoms that connect to it. It is also worth noting that any stranglers with nothing to latch onto will also be destroyed. The best way to approach these puzzles is to take your time and see everything that makes up the whole atom before you start. The first time you encounter this type of puzzle you will be given 3 molecules to clear of all corruption. You will find much harder versions down the line, so be sure to pay attention to what you do here.

The First Molecule – Titanium

The first of these puzzles will be for the Titanium molecule. You will see 3 corruptions on the left and 5 on the right. Between these corrupted atoms will be some green atoms known as “essential atoms.” Never destroy anything that connects to an essential atom. Select the second corruption on the left so that all 3 are destroyed. Now, if you look at the two corruptions on the bottom of the right side, destroy the first one. This will destroy the corruption on its right and the one above, leaving the remaining two severed from the atom and destroying them.

The Second Molecule – Cobalt

This one looks a little more complicated and even features a new kind of atom to the mix. Do not worry, these new atoms are called neutral atoms, and they are not something you need to keep safe like the essential atoms. This one is actually the easiest of these types of puzzles for the game. All you have to do is destroy any of the neutral atoms. This will clear the adjacent corrupted atom near it. Once the first one is cleared, repeat this two more times and it will be clear. So long as you only destroy neutral atoms, you cannot fail this puzzle.

The Final Molecule – Tungsten

Here is the most complex-looking of the first three molecules you will need to clear of corruption. Here you will be able to rotate the molecule. This might seem harrowing at first, but so long as you observe the molecule and do not rush in by destroying atoms without considering their neighbors, you will be okay. To start, you will notice there are only two essential atoms, and they are both in the middle.

Do not destroy any of the neutral atoms that connect to these essential atoms. Rotate the molecule until the first atom on the far left side is a corrupted one. This will mean that the opposite end of the molecule has two neutral ones sticking out. From the first corrupted atom, follow the chain up to a neutral, down to the second corrupted atom, and then up to the second top neutral atom.

Destroy this atom to trigger a chain reaction that will destroy a total of 5 neutral atoms and two corrupted ones — this reaction will fall short of the first essential atom. Rotate the molecule left, and you will get an “X” shape at the start with a corrupted atom in the middle. On the opposite end will be a corrupted atom sticking out that connects to 4 neutral atoms.

Click on the corrupted atom, and it will destroy all 4 neutral atoms around it without causing any damage to the nearby essential atoms. Lastly, rotate the molecule until you start with two neutral atoms. It does not matter which one you start with, follow it to the corrupted atom, then from that corrupted atom to either of the neutral atoms it connects to. Destroy either of these neutral atoms, and it will cause a chain reaction that will clear the last of the corruption.
