Horror movies sooner or later lose their edge – people eventually get used to creepiness and learn to expect surprises at every corner. The creators of The Callisto Protocol are aware of the genre’s problem and hope they can get around it.
In a conversation with Game Informer, Glen Schofield, author of the project, told about how his team approaches creating suspense. According to him, they know very well what kind of tricks users expect from them, so Striking Distance Studios started to engage in so-called “horror design.
The designers keep track of all the creepy moments, record where and how they frightened the player, and already on the basis of cunning analysis arrange scripted scenes with all sorts of obscenities. Moreover, some scary scenes won’t be seen by everyone – the authors intentionally hid them far away, to make especially curious users a pleasant surprise. Scofield hopes that his studio will amaze even connoisseurs of the genre.
As a reminder, The Callisto Protocol will be released on December 2. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
