The rise in popularity of Fall Guys led to an increase in load and a drop in servers

On June 21, the popular Battle Royale game Fall Guys switched to a conditional free-to-play model and immediately ran into difficulties. As it turned out, that very date was marked on the calendar by many gamers. When they all logged in at the same time, the servers couldn’t take it and went down. Given the fact that they have been lying for two days in a row with variable improvements, it is not quite clear what the developers were counting on, and why they were not prepared.

Already, Fall Guys peaked online on Steam at 60,000 players at a time, even though the game disappeared from the store on the day of the transition. A little earlier, the game’s development studio Mediatonic was bought by Epic Games Store, and the contract said that as soon as Fall Guys became free to all comers, it automatically received EGS’s exclusive status. And so it did.

To bypass the “Error Code 14” or “Internet connection error” message when starting the game, you have to first exit it, then directly launch Epic Games, then reopen the game. If you’ve done everything correctly, it will start downloading additional content and after a few seconds will let you into the lobby.

As a reminder, in addition to PC, Fall Guys was also released on PS5, getting backwards compatibility, so the percentage of gamepad players is quite impressive.
