Valve is testing official support for Nintendo’s Joy-Con game controllers on the Steam online service.
The U.S. company said its experts have added support for Joy-Con mini gamepads and improved support for standard Nintendo controllers in the latest Steam beta.
Nintendo released the Switch in March 2017, which means it took Valve more than five years to add Joy-Con support. Support for the Nintendo Switch Pro controller came much faster; Valve started testing the Steam client with this gamepad in May 2018. It seems that Valve developers took a long time to add support for the Joy-Con because of the fact that the device can work as a standard gamepad and as separate mini-controllers.
Valve has not indicated whether Steam will support all Joy-Con features: HD Rumble, built-in gyroscopes, etc. – but at least Joy-Con fans will soon have an easier way to use Nintendo’s weirdest gamepads on their PCs.
