One of the great innovations that we have been able to enjoy this generation of consoles is undoubtedly the backward compatibility, since the fact of being able to play Xbox 360 games and even original Xbox with the capabilities that have the current ones is a great success of Microsoft. However, an Xbox executive has recently come out to talk about the difficulties of adding backwards compatible games, which is a long and complicated process.
Via Twitter, the Xbox executive Jason Ronaldhas come out to answer the concerns of some fans of the brand asking about the inclusion of more games with backward compatibility. Ronald has detailed that, despite being a great feature and function of the consoles, it is a long and complicated process, which took years to develop to get the games.
Xbox exec talks about the difficulties of adding backward-compatible games
Every title is a unique challenge. Licensing is more complicated than just at the publisher level. Depending on the title it may involve composers, licensed soundtracks, voice actors, writers, etc. Definitely not due to a lack of desire by the team or interest from the community.

Unfortunately, I can’t talk about specifics on any one title, but I will share that some of the titles in the last batch took years of work including some I never thought we would be able to bring back. Community feedback drove our priorities & the team did everything they could

As we can see in the messages, Ronald emphasizes that it is not only a matter of licensing the games, but that everything goes much further, including aspects such as music development, voice acting, writers, everything. In addition, he commented that it is complicated to add a multi-level game, as some recent additions “took years of work.” in order to see the expected results.
Incredible data and anecdotes that only software developers can dimension, where many times the work of these is not valued, asking for things that are not so fast to perform. An excellent effort and work made by Microsoft with the backward compatibility.where perhaps in the future more games will arrive with this outstanding feature.
