How to preload Assassin’s Creed: Origins before it hits Xbox Game Pass

On June 7th, the video game Assassin’s Creed: Origins will become available to play through the subscription service Xbox Game Pass. It is at this time that a whole lot of players will begin downloading it from Microsoft servers. The download speed can be pretty slow due to the large load, so it makes sense to download the game in advance, and you can do so right now if you want to.

You will not be able to preload game files directly from the app of the console; rather, you will be able to do so using the official Xbox mobile app (not to be confused with the Xbox Game Pass app). Now, here is what you should do:

  1. Open the official Xbox app on your mobile device (there is a version available for both Android and iOS).
  2. On the start screen, locate and select the search button located at the bottom center;
  3. Navigate to the “Games” area of the menu and type “Assassin’s Creed: Origins” into the search field;
  4. On the game’s page, select “Download to console” from the drop-down menu;
  5. The game will be installed. But you will only be able to start playing the game on June 7.

It’s also possible to download any titles that aren’t on your account to your console if you’re anticipating discounts, for example. It was not feasible to preload Assassin’s Creed: Origins in this manner with the Xbox Game Pass app at the time that this article was being written. Instead, the app will place the game in a category labeled “Play Later,” and it will not begin downloading the content at that instance.
